Tips For Ordering Catering

If you are planning a large event such as a wedding or a graduation party, you are likely going to consider hiring a catering company to make feeding the huge group of people that you have invited more feasible. Catering companies are likely able to produce great quantities of  high-quality food without too much trouble when you might only be able to make lots of pots of macaroni and cheese. However, catering comes with one main problem. You might not know what to order at a catering company or how much to order. Here are some tips for ordering from a catering company.

1. Look at the Type of Party and Time of Day for Deciding About Appetizers

The first thing that you want to look at is the type of party that you are throwing. This is important because it will let you determine if you need appetizers or if you will be able to provide them yourself. At a wedding, you might need a catering company to provide higher-class appetizers than the bags of chips that you can just set out for a graduation party. If you are planning a party that is not going to have any meal following the appetizers, such as a cocktail party, then you will need more appetizers per person.

The next factor that you should look at is the time of day at which the party is being thrown. Parties thrown midday will usually require you to order less appetizers per person because the biggest meal of the day for many people is the evening meal. Parties thrown in the evening will require a greater number of appetizers because people may not have eaten as much earlier.

2. Go With Two Sides Per Person for Dinner

Regardless of the meal that you are serving, you should try to make sure that you order two sides per person if you are planning dinner. This will allow you to provide an entree, a vegetable, and a starch. By providing two sides rather than one, you can increase the chances that people will not leave your party feeling hungry even if they didn't like the entree.

3. Assume Two Servings of Dessert

Finally, unless you are serving a health conscious group of people, order two desserts per person if you are going to serve desserts. Some people will take a ton of dessert and other will not take any, but if you assume one per person, some people might not get as much dessert as they might have wanted.
